In February of 2024, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County presented a new series of events called Train the Trainer. These events provide community leaders with the opportunity to hear from our legal partners and arm themselves with knowledge about expungements to bring the information back to their communities. Our office has hosted two expungement trainings so far, and we look forward to continuing to provide these opportunities to our community.

In October of 2023, Clerk Martinez opened the Domestic Violence Survivor Center in the Markham Courthouse. This facility is located in the basement of the courthouse, and provides a private and comfortable space for victims to meet with advocates, a space for Zoom hearings and a children's area. 

The Domestic Violence Survivor Center is located at the Markham Courthouse at 16501 S. Kedzie Parkway, Markham, IL, 60428. Their phone number is 708-232-4084.

In January of 2023, Clerk Martinez unveiled the Customer Service Call Center, a first of its kind and designed to improve our quality of service. The center is staffed by experienced Clerks, and users can expect to receive assistance on a wide range of court-related matters from the comfort of their own homes. Each Clerk working in the center has been cross-trained on all divisions of law, resulting in a faster resolution of issues for users.

Victims will not trust a system that will not protect them. Without the bravery of those who file protective and firearm restraining orders, both law enforcement and the court system do not have the tools to protect victims of abuse, their children, co-workers, neighbors, and communities.

Many victims will never have the chance to become survivors.

CHICAGO, IL. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court returned our country back to darkened days by eliminating the constitutional right to abortion. The Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade is an abhorrent decision that curtails women’s rights, and of their status as free and equal citizens.

I have fought most of my adult life to protect women’s rights. Women’s fundamental decisions are her own to make, not to be made by some right-wing male Republicans.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade is a direct assault on the decades-long struggles women have fought for dignity, the right to choose, and equal rights. This decision would put a woman's constitutional right to choose back generations, negatively change the future for the next generations, and continue to level devastating consequences upon women who suffer the most prevalent injustices in our country.

To protect the identities of child and adult sex crime victims, Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Iris Y. Martinez partnered with former colleagues Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford (D-Maywood) and Representative Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) on two proposals that were signed into law on Friday.
