      The Chancery Division hears matters of equity which are filed under the following categories: injunctions, class actions, mortgage foreclosures, declaratory judgments, contract matters, creditors' rights, liens, construction of wills and trusts, trusteeships, receiverships, dissolutions of partnerships and corporations, and statutory and administrative reviews.

        The Civil Appeals Division prepares Records on Appeal for the following areas: Chancery, Civil, County, Domestic Relations, Elder Law, Law and the Probate Divisions for Districts 1 through 6 of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

          The Civil Division is responsible for handling civil cases seeking damages less than $30,000.

            The County Division hears actions concerning a variety of matters, including, but not limited to the following: adoptions, election matters, emancipation of minors, mental health, municipal incorporations, orders of protection filed in conjunction with a mental health proceeding, name changes, tax deeds, tax objections and other matters formerly cognizable in the Circuit Court that are not heard in another division.

              The Criminal Department Branch Courts handle Misdemeanor Criminal cases, Preliminary Hearing Felony cases, Domestic Violence cases, and Cook County and non-Cook County warrants. Central Bond Courts handle Felony and Misdemeanor Bond hearings.

                The Criminal Division hears felony trial cases in the City of Chicago. Felony cases are defined as those criminal offenses carrying possible prison terms of more than one year.

                  Cases heard in the Domestic Relations Division seek an order or judgment related to the following: dissolution of marriage/civil union, declaration of invalidity of marriage/civil union, legal separation, parentage, child support, maintenance, allocation of parental responsibilities (formerly known as custody and visitation) and/or orders of protection where there is a pending dissolution or parentage matter.

                    The Domestic Violence Division hears matters concerning: civil orders of protection, criminal actions involving relationships defined by the Illinois Domestic Violence Act including: all matters through the preliminary hearing or indictment in which the most serious offense charged is a Class 1, 2, or 3 felony, Class 4 felonies, misdemeanors, aggravated stalking, civil no contact orders and stalking no contact orders.

                      The Juvenile Justice Division has exclusive jurisdiction over all minors under the age of 17 who have been charged with violating a federal law, state law or municipal ordinance (other than a traffic, boating, fishing, or gaming law violation). Cases heard in the Child Protection Division involve: child abuse, child neglect, child dependency, private guardianship and termination of parental rights.

                        The Law Division hears actions in which the amount of the claim is in excess of $30,000. The case types heard include, but are not limited to, appointment of trustees, breach of contract, personal injury and property damage. The Law Division also maintains the Asbestos Registry.

                          The Probate Division hears actions concerning the probate and contest of wills and testamentary instruments; claims against an estate arising in contract, tort or otherwise; actions and proceedings arising under the Illinois Probate Act of 1975, 755 ILCS chapter 5 et. seq.; the administration of estates of decedents, disabled persons, minors and wards; and petitions pursuant to the Illinois Insurance Code.
