The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County is the Front Door to the Justice System. This office is essential for the smooth functioning of the court system, providing invaluable support to the public and legal professionals. Through their commitment to efficiency and transparency, the Clerk’s office ensures that justice is accessible and served with integrity.
The newly launched Internship Program presents an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of the judicial system. Interns will engage closely with the dedicated staff of the Clerk’s Office, contributing to a range of administrative tasks while gaining invaluable insights into the inner workings of a government office. This internship not only empowers students to translate their academic knowledge into practical experience but also nurtures the development of vital professional skills that will serve them well in their future careers.

Time Commitment
- Internship duration: June 2 – August 22, 2025
- Interns must attend all four-day orientation sessions.
- Minimum commitment of three full days per week.
- Work hours range between 8:45 AM and 4:30 PM.
- The internship is entirely in-person; remote work is not available.
Internship Duties Interns will assist Clerk’s Office staff with various tasks, including but not limited to:
- Answering telephone inquiries.
- Supporting general office functions.
- Aiding the general public.
- Researching answers to inquiries from the public and staff.
- Working on assigned projects from the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
- Gaining exposure to divisions such as Civil, Criminal, Court Administration, Archives, Probate, and External Affairs.
Interns are required to provide the areas of interest and a schedule outlining their availability, specifying the days and times they can contribute to the organization’s initiatives. A commitment to a designated number of hours each week is essential for a productive internship experience. Additionally, those seeking academic credit should share their educational institution’s requirements with our office before the program begins to ensure a smooth integration of academic and professional goals.

Application Requirements Interested candidates must submit the following:
- Completed application form.
- Signed Affidavit and Consent to perform Criminal Background Check Form.
- Official/unofficial transcript or degree.
- Resume.
- Schedule of Availability.
- Area(s) of interest.
- Two letters of recommendation (one from an academic source, one from an employer or volunteer supervisor).
- Writing sample (not to exceed 10 pages).
- Cover letter.
Eligibility Criteria
- Final offer is contingent on passing a Criminal Background Check.
- Must not have open warrants or cases (A previous conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment.)
- Must adhere to Clerk’s Office Dress Code policy.
- Must work stipulated hours as assigned.
- Work Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (24 hours per week)
